Welcome to Hostsite.info. This is where we host our wide variety of niche sites covering topics from A to Z. We will be updating this page from time to time.
We build a variety of websites, primarily affiliate websites, about many topics ranging from Antiques to Zebras. We build new sites on a regular basis, and always look for new topics to discuss.
Basics of web hosting
A web host is the computer/server that stores your website files (HTML, documents, images, videos etc) and provides Internet connectivity so that other people can access those files. Think of a web host as a house for your website where you store all your digital “goods”.
The type of hosting you choose will depend on your needs and the type of business you run. There are a number of types to consider including shared, dedicated, VPS and cloud.
Domains and IP addresses
Having a domain name for your site is a crucial part of setting up your website. Your domain name identifies your site online and is used to give visitors “directions” to your website. Without a domain, your website cannot be found and can be considered unreachable.
Storage: Your storage needs will vary depending on your site’s size and how many visitors it gets. For example, a large business site will need more storage than an individual’s personal blog.
Bandwidth: Your bandwidth requirements will also depend on how many people visit your site. For example, a small blog may only need to transfer images occasionally, while an online shop or e-commerce site will need to handle heavy loads of data and transactions.
Backups: Most hosting services will allow you to back up your site’s data. This will ensure that you can restore your site in the event of a problem.
Resellers: Lastly, many hosts also offer reseller accounts. These allow you to use your allotted hard drive space and bandwidth to host websites for others.
